Slight movement changes the outcome of a kaleidoscope. So it is with is with people, slight movement can transform our world! Journey with me as we live kaleidoscope lives. Cindy Freer Conley, PhD, BCBA-D
Rest, do you ever think about it? I mean seriously and intentionally plan rest into your day or week? Sometimes it seems we are going so fast we forget to stop. You know the old saying stop and take time to smell the flowers? While I think that’s a great idea, I am actually purposing more than that. What if you also made plans to plant the flowers? Take the day to visit the flower gardens? Drive through the countryside to see the flowers? You know, make plans for whatever creates a sincere rest for you.
Playing ball with the dogs is always on for a way to seek peace and rest….. I just have to throw over and over and over again.
Rest Differs
Rest is different for each of us. I’m sure some of you are thinking “hey Cindy planting flowers is work not rest.” Yes, you would be correct for many, but for me playing in the dirt is rest. I love the feel of the dirt in my hands, so that’s rest for me. What’s restful for you, what things/activities create a peace for your spirit? How do you work that rest into your day? I believe it is important that we plan intentionally for rest… it’s good for our body and our spirit. Plan for rest.
Water anything is restful to me. Fortunately for me there are several places with small falls to watch the water flow.
Find Your Rest
In the spirit of rest, I am intentionally leaving this blog article short… I hope to leave you hanging while thinking about rest. So the question for you is this: what is restful and how can you work it into your day/week? Singing? Working out? Prayer? Walking? Reading? Playing catch with the dogs? Sewing? A ride on a motorcycle? Drawing? Playing guitar? Archery? Time with friends? Fishing? Baking? You get the picture… have fun building rest into your day! I leave you with things I consider restful worked into kaleidoscopes… photography is also restful for me. Seek and find your rest: rejuvenate your spirt, soul and body. Be blessed friends, thank you for hanging out with me.
Car washes, especially with the really cool colored bubbles are so relaxing to me. I enjoy just sitting and watching the show.
The beach… any water is restful for me, but the beach is my favorite. I just live too far away to make this a weekly visit.
Flowers, I would be remiss to not include flowers in this post. Flowers from start to finish are restful to me – all of the stages from planting to weeding and the point of the flowers blooming. The kaleidoscope images you see were created from the photo. The kaleidoscope images are created by duplicating, rotating, and adjusting the photo. Live A Kaleidoscope Life… Small adjustments can change the view. Be well my friends.
Hello Friends!
I am Dr. Cindy Freer Conley, and I am so glad you are here! It is so nice to "meet" you. I am entering the world of blogging for the first time, I hope you find these readings worthwhile, helpful and entertaining. I have spent my career in one role or another of the mental health and counseling world. I have worked in private practice and in schools settings. I hold a PhD in Exceptional Education with a concentration in Applied Behavior Analysis. I currently work in public education full time and adjunct part-time. I am a wife and the mother of three adult children and the grandmother of one young lady who is growing up way too fast. I didn't have all of the answers as a mother, although my kids would probably tell you I faked it often (I did). I don't have all of the answers now, but I do know so much more now than I did 27 years ago when I became a parent. I was a single mother for several years, and learned a lot about the unique struggles single parents face. I have spent time with great supports and time where I felt alone on my path - only to look up and realize I was never alone. We are all on a journey, enjoy the journey, but understand small changes on your part may make lasting impacts to someone else's journey.
